The Honor Academy www.honoracademy.com is a 12-month program where students enter as "interns" for intense, driven, and spiritual growth-inducing activities. They are not only taught matters of faith, but also about leadership, character, and other success-oriented topics. Rachael was absolutely determined to be a part of the Honor Academy and, as her father, I discerned that, for her, it was the right thing to do. She entered the program in August of 2003 and, by the time of her death in June, the spiritual growth in my girl was utterly awesome. I can testify first-hand to the positive impact the Honor Academy had on my daughter. |

Rachael was
incredibly self-motivated to achieve the utmost. She took on highly challenging
activities and commitments that were not required. She also stepped up to the
challenge of being accepted as a Core Advisor, meaning that, beginning with her 2nd year
in the program (she decided in the spring that she wanted to go for a 2nd year),
she would be the leader for a Core of about 18 girls (if she passed the rigorous
selection process). The Honor Academy website describes a Core as:
"a group of 12-18 undergraduate interns. A Graduate Intern Core Advisor leads
the discipleship of the core and is available to encourage the interns in the core to
pursue development and growth." |
Well, you would not believe how excited Rachael was when she was indeed selected to be one of the Core Advisors. And she was so ahead of the curve...she had already, after prayerful consideration, selected her Core's name (Surrendered), her Core's scripture: John 12:24 and her Core's graphic that was to go on her Core's flag. At the time of her death, the flag was not yet constructed, but some girls went ahead and constructed the flag and presented it to us at the memorial for Rachael on campus...a photo of the flag is below. |
